1. Discuss the season of Advent and the use of Advent Calendars.  We’ll talk about the difference between the secular calendars that begin on December 1st and the Catholic calendars that begin with the first Sunday of Advent.  Then visit Woodland Junior’s Advent Calendar,  St. Margaret’s Advent Calendar, and the Advent Calendar with games .  2.  Visit Santa at clause.com to see all of the fun activities Santa has for you.

  1.  Discuss the season of Advent and the use of Advent Calendars.  Then visit Woodland Junior’s Advent Calendar,  St. Margaret’s Advent Calendar, and the Advent Calendar with games .     We’ll talk about the difference between the secular calendars that begin on December 1st and the Catholic calendars that begin with the first Sunday of Advent.  2.  Visit Santa’s Barn.  Groups will be assigned a different reindeer to research. They will then make a jpeg in Kidpix telling about their reindeer complete with a picture.  The jpegs will then be inserted into a PowerPoint Presentation and Podcast to be shown to other classes.  We will also have a discussion about plagiarism including the use of copy and paste.

  As a class, we’ll brainstorm the “The True Story of Christmas”  Then in small groups the students will write one part of the story on a PowerPoint slide.  Next, they’ll go to Kidpix to illustrate the different slides.  These pictures will be exported as jpegs.  Then they will import the pictures from the file into their presentation.  Finally, the students will read the story orally as they are being recorded as a podcast.

  1.  Discuss the season of Advent and the use of Advent Calendars.  We’ll talk about the difference between the secular calendars that begin on December 1st and the Catholic calendars that begin with the first Sunday of Advent. Then visit Woodland Junior’s Advent Calendar,  St. Margaret’s Advent Calendar, and the Advent Calendar with games .  2.  In small groups, the students will create an advent Calendar using Microsoft PowerPoint.  These will be posted on our website.

   Each student will be assigned a different country and they will research the Christmas Traditions of that country using the website: Santa Around the World They will then create a Power Point Slide using animations.  The slides will be put together into one large Power Point Presentation.   We will also have a discussion about plagiarism including the use of copy and paste.

 Microsoft Publisher: The students will learn how to create the first page of a Newsletter.  The information will come from their Social Studies Book as a classroom assignment.
