Happy Summer!!!

Dear Students,

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year in the Tech Lab.  I hope you’ve improved your skills while you completed fun projects and explored some great educational websites.

Now it’s time for all of us to take a well deserved break.  Have a wonderful summer and visit my Tizmo often to keep your math and reading skills sharp.

I’m looking forward to another great year!  I’ll see you in August!!

 You’re  going to open Microsoft Word and type in as many words as you can think of.  We’ll talk about how Kidpix is for drawing and Word is for writing.

 We’re going to learn where the letters are on the keyboard by finding the uppercase letter and then  lowercase letters in alphabetical order.  Click on the Kindergarten Kids to play.

  First Grade is beginning a Unit on Ocean Life .  We’ll visit the Magic School Bus website and take a tour of the Ocean.

We are going to write a paragraph describing the “Shape Creature” we made.  Then we’ll switch to Science and explore some websites that are all about “Landforms”. Go to:

Week of May 4, 2009

 All Class will STAR Test this week and then complete the activities below.

 

 We are going to work on the letter “o” and find as many pictures as we can in Kidspiration that have the /o/ sound.  Then we’ll work on our reading skills by going to the website Starfall.com.

 

  First Grade is beginning a Unit on Ocean Life, so we’re going to create a picture in Kidpix of what life is like under the sea.  We’ll also visit the Magic School Bus website and take a tour of the Ocean.

We are going to play some Fraction games to help you with your study of Fractions in your Math Class.

   You are learning about the Moon in Science Class, so we’ll visit the following sites to learn even more.  Phases of the Moon    Earth Viewer      Moon, Earth’s Satellite.  Then you may go to NASA Kids and explore that site.

  We are going to complete a Planet Webquest to go along with your Science Unit. as well as create your crew patch.

  We will be working on keyboarding skills.  Let’s see how fast you can type with your hands covered!    We will also do some work on perimeter and area to go along with your current Math Unit.  We’ll use Excel to create the shapes.  You’ll learn about sizing cells and making borders. Week of April 27, 2009

 

 

 

 Click on the Kindergarten Kids to dosity.com.  and add up the ladybugs.  Then go to Tutpup in Tizmo.  We’ll work on addition facts and number sentences.  On your second day we’ll make number sentences in Kidspiration. 

 Go to Tizmo and click on the first website: Learning Math Games – Telling Time.  Then when you finish, go to the second site: Clockworks.

  We’re going to make a shape creature in Kidspiration and then write a paragraph about it.

  Go to Tizmo, then Harcourt Math, Grade 3, Chapter 26.  Work your way through the 4 activities to practice working with fractions.

  PowerPoint:  You are going to illustrate the 10 Commandments in Kidpix and then you will learn how to insert those pictures into a PowerPoint presentation.  This week we’ll illustrate Commandments 7-8.

 We are going to work on touch typing the home row.  You are going to cover the keyboard and work on typing without looking at the keys.

 

 We are going to learn how to copy a file from the network onto a CD as you copy your own disk of pictures from Camp McDowell.   Then we are going to work on touch typing the home row.  You are going to cover the keyboard and work on typing without looking at the keys.

At the beginning of this week, we’ll all make a card for Robbie using Kerpoof.  As you probably know, he is the soccer coach at the high school and he was in a terrible car accident a few weeks ago.  So far our school has raised over $4,000 to help with his medical bills.  Way to go St. Bede!!

Later in the week, we’ll do some Earth Day Activities.

  You’re going  illustrate the story you wrote in your class about being a seed.  Your fifth grade buddies are going to type your story on the computer and add your illustration to make a wonderful PowerPoint Presentation.  Next, we’ll review our keyboarding skills with Key Seekers

  Kidpix: You are going to write a prayer thanking Jesus for giving Himself to us in the Eucharist.  Since this is Holy Week, we’ll draw a picture of The Last Supper to go with our prayer.

  You are going to make a water cycle in Kidpix and label it. 

  PowerPoint:  You are going to illustrate the 10 Commandments in Kidpix and then you will learn how to insert those pictures into a PowerPoint presentation.  This week we’ll illustrate Commandments 1-4.

 You’re going to type the story that you helped your first grade buddy edit.  They will illustrate it and you’ll import their illustration into a PowerPoint Slide.

 This week you’ll learn how to create a Master Slide using backgrounds and borders.

 Kerpoof:  You’ll get your own username and password.  You’ll create your own Avatar.  Next, you’ll practice logging into Kerpoof and you’ll learn how to use all of the different tools.

Power Point: Complete PowerPoint Creed Project, Practice Keyboarding Skills with Mavis Beacon, and they you’ll challenge your math skills with Tutpup.  Next, you’re going to type the story that you helped your first grade buddy edit.  They will illustrate it and you’ll import their illustration into a PowerPoint Slide.

Power Point: Cool Text – Click on  3D Text Maker and follow my directions to create some interesting text for your projects.  Then look for good backgrounds for Power Point Presentatons by going to: http://www.brainybetty.com/  Next you’ll learn how to create a Master Slide using backgrounds and borders.
