This is MATH WEEK in the Tech Lab

Kindergarten will make simple math problems using Kidpix. We will also practice some basic addition facts using Dositey.com. Just click on the Kindergarten Kids to get started.

Grades 1-2: We will also compete with other students from different schools using TutPup. Just click on your grade level to get started.

Grades 3-6: This week we’ll be practicing for The American Math Challenge.

Students will be able to choose from several different skills, solve problems, and participate in a program where children compete with other children from all over the United States.

I’m encouraging all students to log in at home and participate in the competition as often as possible this week.

DAY 1: Reinforce Letter Recognition and Letter Placement on the Keyboard: Key Seekers. DAY2. Reinforce Math Skills: Harcourt Math Website: Click on the Kindergarten Kids to practice what you’ve learned in your Math class.

DAY 1: Reinforce Letter Placement on the Keyboard: Key Seekers DAY 2: Reinforce Math Skills: Harcourt Math Website – Count Back Number Line and the Number Line March. When you finish you can play any of the games from Chapter 1 to Chapter 7.

DAY 1: Reinforce the letters on the Home Row: Dance Mat Typing DAY 2: Reinforce Math Skills: Harcourt Math Website – Chapter 6, High Rise Math and Busy Bees. When you are finished, you may play any of the games from Chapter 1 to Chapter 6.

Grades 3-6: This week we’ll be practicing for The American Math Challenge.

Students will be able to choose from several different skills, solve problems, and participate in a program where children compete with other children from all over the world.

Students can log on and begin to practice from November 2-8th. Then next week, we’ll actually compete in the Challenge. I’m encouraging all students to log in at home and practice for the big challenge.

Keyboarding Skills: Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing and The American Math Challenge Practice.

Fourth Grade will be introduced to Power Point. They will denonstrate how to open the program, insert a slide, and create a Title Slide. Then they will insert a Photo Album File. They will also be introduced to changing backgrounds and custom animations.

Fifth Grade will be introduced to Slide Transition and Custom Animation in PowerPoint while we finish Monster Project. They will then reinforce their Math Skills as they practice for the American Math Challenge Practice.

Sixth Grade will reinforce their Math Skills as they practice for the American Math Challenge.

DAY 1: Kerpoof: Create a Halloween Movie. Follow the directions shown on the SmartBoard. Make sure you check “Share with your group”. DAY 2: We’ll view all of the movies on the SmartBoard.

DAY 1: Monster Project: Using a description from a student in the other 5th grade class, you will draw their monster. DAY 2: Presentation of all the monsters.

DAY 1: Click on the number 1 to go to Starfall.com. Then click on All About Me and complete the activity. When you’re finished, click on each of the activities in the Play Box. DAY 2: Kerpoof: How to Write a Story.

DAY 1: Complete and Export the Fall picture you started last week. We’re working on opening, saving, and exporting files. I’ll explain just how organizing files work by using regular file folders, a hanging file folder, and the file cabinet. DAY 2: Keyboarding: Dance Mat Typing

DAY 1: Complete the Fall Acrostic Activity you started last week and then go to Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing and complete your next lesson. DAY 2: Kerpoof: Writing with Make a Story.

DAY 1: In Kidpix, draw a picture of a monster. You must use at least 3 different colors, be very detailed, and don’t use backgrounds from the program. DAY 2: You will write a descriptive paragraph describing your monster in detail. Next week the other 5th grade will re-create your monster using only your description. We’ll see how close the second monster is to the first monster.

DAY 1: Mrs. Tynan is going to give you a research assignment and you’ll do the research in the Tech Lab. DAY 2: Finish the graph we started last week about fast food.

Then we’ll enter the data into an Excel document and create a chart. Then add that to a PowerPoint slide.

Skills taught: Launch Excel, Open new worksheet 3 different ways including using a keyboard shortcut, enter data, highlight data, four steps of the Chart Wizard, PowerPoint skills including adding slides, inserting objects, slide layout options, and adding custom animation.
