Merry Christmas!!

This week we’ll finish up our projects from last week.  View projects from other classes, pick up our letters from Santa, and enjoy the Christmas Websites. 

1. Click on the Kindergarten Kids to go to the North Pole and write a letter to Santa.  On your second day in Computer, we’ll go back to the North Pole and print our responses from Santa.  Then we’ll go to Kidpix and create a drawing of a Christmas Tree and export it as a jpeg so we can put it on our website.

  As a class, we’ll brainstorm the “The True Story of Christmas”  Then in small groups the students will write one part of the story on a PowerPoint slide.  Next, they’ll go to Kidpix to illustrate the different slides.  These pictures will be exported as jpegs.  Then they will import the pictures from the file into their presentation.  Finally, the students will read the story orally as they are being recorded as a podcast.

   DAY 1:    Using the SMARTboard, we’ll investigate  ”The Voyage on the Mayflower, Daily Life of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoags and then we’ll learn all about the First Thanksgiving.     http://www.scholastic.com/scholastic_thanksgiving/voyage/index.htm   DAY2. We’ll use out mouse skills by tracing around a hand using the paint tool in Kidpix.  We’ll then decorate the turkey and place stamps of things we’re thankful for around our turkey.

 DAY 1:  Wordle: You’ll go to http://www.wordle.net/ and create a word cloud of all of the things you’re thankful for.  When you finish, you can go to  http://wilstar.com/holidays/thanksgv.htm.  and work on the Thanksgiving Word Search.

  Day 2:  Investigate Microsoft Publisher and learn how to use the templates for a Newsletter.  Next week you will make a Newsletter for your English Class.

This is MATH WEEK in the Tech Lab

   Kindergarten will make simple math problems using Kidpix.  We will also practice some basic addition facts using Dositey.com.  Just click on the Kindergarten Kids to get started.

Grades 1-2: We will also compete with other students from different schools using TutPup.  Just click on your grade level to get started. 

Grades 3-6: This week we’ll be practicing for The American Math Challenge. 

Students will be able to choose from several different skills, solve problems, and participate in a program where children compete with other children from all over the United States.

  I’m encouraging all students to log in at home and participate in the competition as often as possible this week.

   DAY 1:    Reinforce Letter Recognition and Letter Placement on the Keyboard:  Key Seekers.  DAY2.  Reinforce Math Skills: Harcourt Math Website: Click on the Kindergarten Kids to practice what you’ve learned in your Math class.

 DAY 1:   Reinforce Letter Placement on the Keyboard: Key Seekers   DAY 2: Reinforce Math Skills: Harcourt Math Website – Count Back Number Line and the Number Line March.  When you finish you can play any of the games from Chapter 1 to Chapter 7.

 DAY 1: Reinforce the letters on the Home Row: Dance Mat Typing   DAY 2: Reinforce Math Skills: Harcourt Math Website – Chapter 6, High Rise Math and Busy Bees.  When you are finished, you may play any of the games from Chapter 1 to Chapter 6.

Grades 3-6: This week we’ll be practicing for The American Math Challenge.

Students can log on and begin to practice from November 2-8th.  Then next week, we’ll actually compete in the Challenge.  I’m encouraging all students to log in at home and practice for the big challenge.

  Keyboarding Skills:    Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing and The American Math Challenge Practice.

 Fourth Grade will be introduced to Power Point.  They will denonstrate how to open the program, insert a slide, and create a Title Slide.   Then they will insert  a  Photo Album File.   They will also be introduced to changing backgrounds and custom animations.   

  Fifth Grade will be introduced to  Slide Transition and Custom Animation in PowerPoint while we finish Monster Project.  They will then reinforce their Math Skills as they practice for the  American Math Challenge Practice.

  Sixth Grade will reinforce their Math Skills as they practice for the American Math Challenge.

  We are going to look at the nutritional values of many fast food restaurants and complete two projects.  1.  We are going go compare 3 meals for the same restaurant to see what the best food choice would be. 2.  We’re going to compare our favorite meal from 3 different restaurants.  Then we’ll enter the data into an Excel document and create a chart.  Then add that to a PowerPoint slide.
