Do you know what sites your child is visiting on the Internet?

We are living in a very exciting digital world, but it can also be quite scary.  Here are some questions to consider while trying to keep your children safe for inappropriate material on the internet:

Where is the computer located that your children use?  Is it in a common area of the house where you can keep an eye on things, or is it in their bedroom where they are free to roam cyberspace without supervision?

Do you walk behind your children when they are online?

Do you ask questions about what they’re doing or who they may be chatting with?

Do you periodically check the history to see where they’ve been?

When your children have friends over, are you especially careful about what they’re surfing on the net?  It seems that when two or more are gathered – curiousity increases and fear decreases.

When your child visits a friends house have you asked that parent if they are free to surf the net unsupervised?

Talk to your children about internet safety and about what is appropriate and what’s not.  We all have to work together to keep cyberspace an exciting and educational tool for our children.

Here are some things we’ll be doing in class:

I will be using the CyberSmart Curriculum to teach your children about: Safety. Manners, Advertising, Research, and Technology on the Internet.  This is an excellent program and you can check it out from the link below.  I’ve also listed the link to NetSmartz.  That is another great site to use with your child.
